According to the latest Rasmussen poll, Rudy Guiliani leads the race for the nomination followed by Mike Huckabee. In the next tier, Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson are tied for third place. While John McCain had support early, he and others are now trailing far behind.

Support for candidates has been extremely dynamic in the contest for the nomination this term. Early on, others like Condoleeza Rice and Newt Gingrich garnered early support, but have since decided not to run. Several candidates have already dropped out of the running including Tommy Thompson and Kansas Sam Brownback.
