Mechanical Technology

·         Automotive Technology- The Automotive Technology program is divided into two sections of 540 hours each. The beginning section consists of basic theory and familiarization of automotive components. Some hands-on shop activities are included. Tools are furnished by KATS. The intermediate section includes basic shop practice in two areas: Applied Engine Performance, which develops diagnostic skills with scanners, lab scopes and oscilloscopes;and Vehicle Suspension Control Systems including automotive transmission and transaxle. Studentowned tools and tool box are required. Students in Applied Engine Performance will graduate certified in A/C. A third advanced section is optional, but recommended. It runs 270 hours and requires department approval. Students will gain more hands-on experience and improve their diagnostic skills. 1080/1350 Hours. 11, 12, Adult.

·         Cabinet/Millwork- The Cabinet and Millwork course is designed to provide competency-based training using modern tools, power equipment, plan design layouts and total cabinet construction and finishing. Training connected with the cabinet and millwork course will provide students with entry-level skills. Prior experience in woodworking and power tool usage is recommended for high school candidates. 1080 Hours. 11, 12, Adult.

·         Collision Repair- The Collision Repair program includes all phases of repairing and repainting vehicles. Students will learn the use of modern hand and power tool equipment, as well as handling typical collision repair jobs. Related theory and technical instruction includes the study of physical principles of metals and fiberglass, principles of welding, applying undercoats and topcoats, and use of terminology within the collision repair industries. 1080 Hours. 11, 12, Adult.

·         Diesel Mechanics- The Diesel Mechanics program includes repair and maintenance of several types of diesel equipment. Instruction will be given in tune-up and overhauling diesel engines, transmissions, and differentials. Some of the type of engines, transmissions, and differentials used will be Caterpillar, Mack, Fuller, Allison, and Rockwell Eaton. Emphasis will be placed on safety and the proper care and use of tools and test equipment. 1080 Hours. 11, 12, Adult.
