Business Technology

·         Legal Secretary- The Legal Secretary program prepares students for work as a legal secretary, receptionist, transcriptionst, and billing clerk. Students study the origination of law, court systems, criminal law, torts, contracts, family law, property, wills & trusts, and other areas of law. Students learn WordPerfect 7 for Windows 95, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Presentations, Docket/Calendar, and Legal Billing computer software programs. Students learn legal office procedures and how to prepare pleadings and legal documents. Students who excel have an opportunity to intern for a law firm. Student placement includes working for the U.S. District Court, Shawnee County Court, State of Kansas, law firm, or corporation. Prospective students must score at or above the eleventh (11 th) grade level in all areas on the general entrance exam. 1080 Hours. 11, 12, Adult.

·         Medical Secretary- The Medical Secretary program provides students with the training necessary to become a part of a medical team The major areas of emphasis are medical terminology, medical transcription, medical office procedures, and the ability to observe a professional approach toward confidential information. Medical Secretary candidates must score at or above the eleventh (1 1th) grade level in all areas on the general entrance exam. 1080 Hours. 11, 12, Adult.

·         Office Technology- The Office Technology program is designed to enable students to enter the workforce with marketable skills for entry level off ice positions and abilities enabling students to move into more advanced positions. Off ice Technology candidates must score an or above the eleventh (11 th) grade level in all areas on the general entrance examination. 1080 Hours. 11, 12, Adult. The Off ice Technology program offers training in the following areas and diplomas are awarded for successful completion:

o        Account Clerk- The Account. Clerk program equips students with the knowledge and skills to obtain entry-level bookkeeping positions. Students leave with a foundation in accounting fundamentals completing assignments by hand and on the computer One of the most popular accounting software programs is used. Students increase data entry, keyboarding, and word processing skills as well as become proficient at utilizing spreadsheets and databases. Students have an opportunity to network with employers through internships, field trips, and having guest speakers.

o        Information Specialist/Office Support Clerk- This provides training in the use of an electronic keyboard to record and/or store structured office documents. Skills are enhanced by a study of basic word processing concepts, a review of basic grammar spelling, proofreading, letter writing, and machine transcription. Information Specialist graduates must have a typing speed o 55 nwpm at the end of the program.

·         Warehousing/Sales- The Warehousing/Sales program is designed to include training in counter sales, route sales, and warehouse operations. Areas of instruction include all aspects of inventory, materials handling, storage, receiving, shipping, control, security, housekeeping, and safety. The second 540 hours will be mid-management training; students are recommended to this program by the instructor. 540/1080 Hours. 11, 12, Adult.
