Philosophy of WRHS gifted program
It is the purpose of the WRHS gifted program to
provide an educational environment in which the
gifted student is allowed, aided, and encouraged to
achieve his/her highest potential.
We believe:
- All students have a right to an education
commensurate with their abilities.
- Most students with very high academic
abilities need to be challenged to maintain
their interest in learning.
- Creativity should be encouraged and guided,
not stifled.
- High expectations often yield high quality
results.
- Giftedness=High Intellectual Ability+Task
Commitment+Creativity
- Giftedness is a potential for behavior which is
demonstrated at certain times, under certain
conditions in a certain talent area.
- Advancement of student learning will be based
on individual needs.
- Ongoing assessment of student growth will
utitlize authentic tools as well as test data.
- Programming options will be assessed
regularly by those involved.
- Supportive attitudes and active partnerships
among students, parents, teachers,
administrators, and community members are
essential to the development of appropriate
programming options.
The unique worth, ability, and dignity of each
student should be recognized and cultivated.
Students need a school environment that helps them
realize their potential and instills in them a desire to
develop their talents and abilities. To encourage
optimum achievement, the school must provide
varied and challenging learning opportunities
matched to the needs and talents of students with
high potential.
