Our learning community at Washburn Rural High School exists to enable our members to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to meet their responsibilities to themselves and other in order to lead a fulfilling life in a rapidly changing world.

The Auburn-Washburn School District will provide all children a safe, enjoyable, and challenging school environment where they have the opportunity to achieve their maximum individual education potential. All students will receive a balanced education where traditional scholastics are taught, creativity and innovation are cultivated, and life skills are learned; preparing them to assume roles as responsible citizens in a global community.

Every year Topeka, KS holds a Best of Topeka contest. This contest contains 100 categories where the public vote for their favorites for each category.

In the 2010 Best of Topeka contest, Washburn Rural High School was voted Best School.

WRHS is a closed campus. All doors, except the main entrance, are locked at the start of the school day. All visitors are to enter only through the main entrance doors and must check in at the office. Security cameras are used throughout the school both inside and outside and Student Resource Officers (SRO) are on site.

In order to create a safe learning environment, USD 437 does not allow certain items on school grounds. Any person in violation will be reported to the school officials and possibly the police. Banned items include, but are not limited to:

• Weapons
• Tobacco Products
• Drugs and Drug Paraphernalia
• Alcohol
